What Hurts God's Calling on Your Life

Do you feel like you have a calling to do something in your life?  Where did this come from?  This week was a great week for me as God just gave me a gentle reminder that it's still always about Him.  This week, Joby Martin from Eleven22 spoke about comparison and how it kills God's calling on your life.  I think with the rise in connectivity and technology, comparison is something that is almost unavoidable in today's society.  Today I wanted to write about the three things most people compare:  Their past, others, and their future. How many of you look back today and say "Oh man, five years ago I had a great body," or "Back when I was in college I did some really stupid things."  The past can be a good tool in regards to helping you learn, but comparing today to your past is often something  that can hurt God's calling on your life if it is improperly viewed.  One thing that many non-believers have trouble with is the fact that their past...

Making the Most of Your Time

"Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil.  So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is." Ephesians 5:15.   This past week was a big growth week for me.  I definitely experienced a valley and because of that, I experienced a peak.  I am a firm believer in the fact that you grow the most when you are either pushed into uncomfortable situations or you experience a valley.  Can you recall times in your life when you grew spiritually on a personal mountain top?   This verse above is from Paul in which he is sharing many keys to experiencing the indescribable joy that Jesus offers by being in a relationship with Him. I was reminded of this verse when I had a less than desirable Wednesday.  I'm sure you have those days:  The ones where your list keeps getting longer and longer, your stress keeps building, and you simply don't know where t...

Sending Out Spies

The Lord said to Moses "Send some men to explore the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the Israelites."-Numbers 13:1 This command from God to Moses comes during the time in which the Israelites and Levites are literally following God through the movement of a cloud that hovers over the ark and tabernacle that was carefully constructed based on God's instructions to Moses.  We get an idea of this movement through Numbers 9:15-23.  "On the day the tabernacle, the tent of the covenant law, was set up, the cloud covered it.  From evening till morning the cloud above the tabernacle looked like fire.  That is how it continued to be; the cloud covered it, and at night it looked like fire.  Whenever the cloud lifted from above the tent, the Israelites set out; wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped.  At the Lord's command the Israelites set out, and it His command they encamped." What is so cool about this, is that God is showing himself and dir...

Riding Waves and Getting Closer to God

I'm sure that all of you can agree with me that there are always ups and downs in life.  There are times when you've been flying high and times when you thought the sun might not come up tomorrow.  Times when you have been tested and times when you have been championed.  Have you ever thought about the correlation to your prayer life and your happenings?    In this life, we constantly have waves of highs and lows.  The way in which these waves impact you and others around you though solely comes down to your focus.  In Matthew 14, we see Jesus walking on water and He instructs Peter to come and do the same.  Peter then walked on water, but the moment he took his eyes off of Jesus and looked at the wind, Peter started to sink.  I think this is a really cool example of the power of Jesus.  Many times in the Bible, there are stories written where people were afraid or should have been afraid (especially pertaining to waves and water)....
