Are You Preparing to Win?

1 Samuel 17:40: “Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepard’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine.”

Do you have a tough battle ahead? Is there something on the horizon that you can see that is going to be a tremendous challenge? Diving into the story of David vs. Goliath can show you that with God, you are stronger than anything you might face and that victory will be yours! David being a young man was in no shape to take on Goliath!  From the human perspective, he was merely a shepard boy, but as we see when David explains to his brother, he has the strength of the Lord! David was living in true obedience and relationship with God and knew that He had saved him when he fought a lion and a bear!  He knew that God would deliver in the upcoming battle with Goliath.

This brings me to my main point:  What are you doing today that will prepare you for what comes after you’re victorious in your battle?   You see in the verse above that David chose five stones...why did he choose five when he knew God was going to bring him victory over Goliath? If David was confident, wouldn’t he just take one? David did only need one....for Goliath, but what David was doing was preparing for what came after the victory. In 2nd Samuel:21:19-22 we see that Goliath had four brothers!  David was prepared to fight the battle after the victory! He had a stone for every brother!

In our lives we are constantly faced with battles, and with our God, we will always be victorious! We know this because of what happened on Calvary! Often times though we will win, get to the top, and then face another battle that we weren’t prepared for: a battle with our pride! There is nothing more separating to our relationship with Christ than the divider of our own pride and boastfulness. Know this, with God you will be victorious!  You will climb the mountain that you are facing, and you will be in a position to either believe it was because of your doing or because of God’s divine intervention in your life! The issue that many face today though is that they will experience a win, or even multiple wins, and without the proper foundation in their spiritual relationship with Christ, they are in perfect sights for the enemy.

So how do you prepare?  You have to replace the word “my” in your vocabulary to “yours.”  It was not my doing, it was your doing!  It was God that gave me the strength to persist and win! It was God who gave me this victory!  Thanking God continuously and dying to yourself on a daily basis, being in true unconditional obedience to the Word of God, and pursuing Godliness in all that you do will be your four other stones in your pouch!  There will be more battles after your victory, and many times those battles come from the top of your success. Humble yourself and give glory to God in all things!

My prayer for you this week is that you know that with God and with unconditional obedience to the Word of God, you will be victorious in your upcoming battle, and I urge you to prepare for what comes after the victory. I urge you to give your worries and your wins to God!

Have a great week!

God Doesn't Need your Ability. He Needs your Availability.

The past couple weeks I've been diving (pun intended) into the story of Jonah.  We all know that he spent three days in the belly of the beast, but do you know how he got there?  Jonah decided to disobey God by going towards another city.  Jonah got on a boat to run away from where God had told him to go.  Here are my three key takeaways from Jonah's story: 1) God will use "bumpers," 2) God can use you whether or not you're available, and 3) God is bigger than anything you can even dream of.  1)  God will use "Bumpers" Jonah decided not to go towards Nineveh, instead he headed towards Tarshish.  Jonah is on a boat with other sailors and as they are traveling they encounter a great storm.  The storm was so great that the ship "threatened to break up."  This storm and the risk to the ship was great enough for the sailors to start throwing cargo off of the ship and cry out to their own gods.  What was happening?  I am fortunate to k...

Pursuing Righteousness

The past month my church group has been focusing on the Sermon on the Mount for which we get the Beatitudes from Jesus.  The cool thing about going through this has been that I learned that the order of the Beatitudes is important as Jesus was giving His people a road map of how to be transformed through Him.  Jesus lived His life perfectly and is our example for what we should strive for.  Two times Jesus talks about righteousness in the Beatitudes:  "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be satisfied" and "Blessed are those that are persecuted for the sake of righteousness for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."  As I learned more about this and dove deeper into my own prayer time it occurred to me that Jesus didn't say blessed are THE righteous, or blessed are those that are persecuted for THEIR righteousness.....no, Jesus said blessed are those who hunger and thirst, blessed are those that are persecuted for the sake of righte...

Peter's Advice for When You Encounter Suffering

As I mentioned in my last blog post, things have been moving fast for me.  I'm so fortunate to now be leading a life group at my church (Chet's Creek).  It's truly an incredible thing to look back over the last five plus years in my life and see the changes that have taken place all because God wanted my focus to be on Him.  Today I want to talk about Peter and what he tells us to do when we encounter suffering.  Unlike in Peter's time, in today's world I believe that many of us suffer internally rather than externally.  In our daily walk we are likely not stoned by others, or physically beaten, rather we are entrenched more by internal sufferings.  The suffering of being different than the world, the suffering of not fitting in, the suffering of not measuring up to what the world wants for you.  Peter gives us some great advice for when we encounter suffering:  First we must discern if we are suffering due to God's will.  Second we must comm...
