"For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul."- Mark 8:36
When was the last time you calculated your net worth? I'm in the process of buying a house and I am going through the steps of giving my information to my bank for the underwriting of the loan. It's fairly simple on paper: What are your assets and liabilities? What do you own vs. what do you owe?
What would it look like if God wanted to underwrite you? What would you present to Him for the due diligence of your soul? Many people constantly fall into the trap of "I've done this, or I've been a good person, or I've lead people to becoming a Christian," but there is only one thing that God looks at when determining your approval: JESUS.
God does not measure us like we measure ourselves and others. How thankful I am that no matter what the weight of your sins on the balance beam scale of your life, Jesus is on the other side outweighing it all.
God does not care about what you have here on earth. God doesn't care how many Instagram followers you have. He doesn't care about how "Churchy" you are. He doesn't even care about the "Kind of car you drive, or the ice around your neck" (Please tell me you sang this when you read it #NSYNC). What God cares about is you and your soul. God doesn't want part of you, He wants all of you. God wants to use you as a conduit, but He can only do that when you have zero barriers for the root to reach the fruit!
Don't fall into the trap of measuring from the human perspective. I heard last week a friend of mine compare his sins to those of David, a man after God's own heart. The line went something like this: "I mean I only did this, but it's not like I did the terrible things David did. I didn't commit adultery or kill a person." Guess what?....On the balance sheet of our Heavenly Father, the white lie you tell your friend holds the same weight of murder. A sin is a sin. A person that has committed horrible things and sins that many would judge is the same in the eyes of Jesus as a person who has lived a pretty much sinless life. We are all equally damned, yet we have significant equal value! Our value is found in our salvation provided by Jesus. Not only does Jesus provide us salvation, but he also calls us to share this great news with others! Unlike other assets on our human balance sheet, the assets of our Heavenly Father will not decrease when disbursed and shared! In fact, you will find that sharing the Gospels and sharing your time and resources with those who have not accepted Jesus will actually increase your resources!
Going back to one of my first questions and looking at your spiritual balance sheet, what do you own vs. what do you owe? You own only one thing, and that is the decision to either believe you own it all, or you owe it all. Are you willing to accept that you owe everything and own nothing? I hope that you are, because by making your life, His life, by making your resources, His resources, by making your time, His time, you will encounter a joyous life that will impact anyone that comes in contact with you, because they will experience the Holy Spirit working through you!
My prayer this week is that you determine what it is you think you own, and you give it all to God. For by giving this to God, you will clear a channel in which the root can reach the fruit!
Have a great week!
